Create a world for one evening

A strong theme, carried through the room.

From a dramatic entrance to the final activity, a theme works best when the details belong together. We turn a chosen direction into a practical styling and guest-programme plan.

Ask about this format

Start with a recognisable visual language

Hollywood-inspired styling can use an arrival carpet, portrait backdrop and controlled pools of light. A Gatsby direction suits geometric lines, metallic accents and a more formal arrival. Masquerade can be carried through fabric, theatrical lighting and a carefully chosen colour palette without making costumes compulsory.

Retro and pop culture briefs need a clear era or reference point. We discuss the colours, music direction and props that communicate it, and use original or appropriately licensed artwork. A familiar theme does not automatically grant permission to reproduce film logos, characters or protected imagery.

Decide how immersive the programme should be

For some groups, styling is enough: the room sets the atmosphere while guests talk and enjoy dinner. Other groups want a hosted story or a murder mystery with assigned roles. These are different production scopes. A scripted format needs approved material, clear guest instructions and enough time for the story to resolve.

The styled-event starting scope is a three-hour gathering for up to 30 guests, with a single stock backdrop, a focused arrangement of hired props, basic accent lighting and one coordinator. It includes ordinary setup and pack-down in a suitable Auckland venue. Costumes, professional performers and custom construction are optional additions.

Choose the focal points

We identify the entrance, main social space and one photo area. Concentrating the styling creates a more coherent result than scattering unrelated props across a large room.

Match the room to the idea

We check ceiling height, rigging permissions, power and lighting control. Nothing is suspended or fixed to venue surfaces without the necessary approval.

Plan the guest invitation

Your invitation can suggest a dress direction and explain any character participation. We agree this before guests receive it so the promise matches the actual programme.

Indicative planning price

From NZ$2,500

A compact décor and coordination scope is the base. Immersive scripts, character performers, elaborate props and custom builds are quoted on top.

A coherent stock styling treatment costs differently from a scripted or custom-built experience. We identify each addition in the proposal and confirm GST treatment. Venue hire, hospitality, performers and travel outside the Auckland base are separate unless listed as inclusions.

Before the brief

Practical questions.

Do guests have to dress up?
No. A theme can be expressed through the room and programme. If you want costumes encouraged, we help establish a simple direction and leave room for guests who prefer ordinary evening wear.
Can a murder mystery work for a large group?
The script and facilitation structure must suit the number of active roles. For up to 75 guests, a team-based format or professional performers may be more appropriate than giving every guest an individual character.
Can you reproduce a particular film set?
We can discuss an original visual direction inspired by a broad genre or era. Exact reproductions, protected graphics and licensed characters require appropriate rights and a separately assessed production budget.
Can we combine a theme with table entertainment?
Yes. Styling can frame a hosted table programme, with the equipment and croupiers added as a separate service scope. We check space and timing before combining the two.
